Apogee is currently seeking three associates in: Promotions, Publicity & Social Media, and Development, to join us for Issue Three and beyond! We are looking for enthusiastic team players who strongly identify with our mission and are eager to help build our brand.

Publicity and Social Media

This associate works with the Blog Editors to manage Twitter and Facebook accounts, promote events through social media and print promotional materials (posters, flyers, postcard invitations, etc.), manage the journal listserv (through MailChimp), manage the Apogee email account and respond to queries. The Publicity and Social Media Associate should have a broad knowledge of the current literary landscape, including literary journals, blogs, authors and relevant media outlets. Proficiency with social media and journal platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Issuu.com), and some WordPress blogging, as well as previous experience in publicity, marketing and/or publishing is a huge plus.

Development 

The Development Associate works with the Co-Editor-in-Chief to seek out grants and determine Apogee’s eligibility; draft grant applications; assist with budgeting for the following: Events, Printing, Mailing, and Promotions; oversee crowdsource funding campaigns; help plan fundraising events; develop capacity to manage larger finances.

The associate should have knowledge of writing grant proposals and writing budgets, and be proficient with the Microsoft Word suite, including Excel. If interested, please send your resume and a short letter of interest to editors@apogeejournal.org with the subject heading: Development Associate.

Promotions

The Promotions Associate works with the Editor-at-Large and Contributing Editor to develop events opportunities for Apogee, including book fairs, panel discussions, and open mics; to make contact with other like-minded journals; to promote the brand of the journal to outside individuals and institutions including presses, educational institutions, and literary organizations. The associate may also contact bookstores regarding sales, events and promotions; help run events; communicate with solicited authors and advisory board members; copyedit editorial content (such as the Apogee newsletter, and staff blog posts).

As with all Apogee Journal staff positions, these associate positions are voluntary. However, the roles will provide valuable insight into the workings of a literary journal at the crossroads of politics and literature, and offer support, mentorship and community to writers and editors interested in political writing.
