Join Apogee Journal and MoCADA for a joint benefit party and reading in MoCADA’s gallery! Mingle with staff, activists, artists and writers while supporting and celebrating both organizations’ missions to use the visual and literary arts to give voice, space and community to those whose identities are continually challenged, questioned, and dismissed in mainstream media and culture.The celebration will feature readings by acclaimed writers Cathy Park Hong, Saeed Jones, Kiese Laymon, and Mahogany L. Browne, a cash bar, and light refreshments. We’ll also be celebrating the launch of Apogee’s 3rd Issue! Prizes for the evening include a signed poster by MoCADA artistShantell Martin; a signed copy of Misty Copeland’s memoir Life in Motion; a signed Wangechi Mutu art book; a Taschen book of Diego Rivera’s complete works; two tickets (value $300) to the New York Writers’ Coalition Write-A-Thon, New York City’s most popular marathon writing event, to be held on November 1st 2014; a One-Day writing Intensive at Gotham Writers, and a manuscript workshop, query letter critique and dinner with notable New York City writers.
