1. The day she passed, the rain grew bored of streets in my city. After the brief phone call, and the dull
click at both ends of the line, I went for a walk among the drying worms and watched as a bird
careened against the square trick of a window, collapsing into blades of uncut lawn. And what
remained. Blood. Still life with glass and feathers. My friend is white space here. I write about worms
and the bird to avoid her person on this page. I love her. Loved her. Past tense, meaning echo, the
half-clear sound of going, going, going
