Dear Apogee Fam,

Come join us in launching Apogee Issue 10!!! The party and reading will take place at Wayfarers in Bushwick on Thursday, January 18 from 7-9 pm. Issue 10 will be Apogee’s last print issue before we undergo a transformation. Editors Dennis Norris and Joey De Jesus will emcee the night.

Issue 10 includes work by Jon Lewis-Katz, Kate Schmier, George Kevin Jordan and Ben Miller in fiction, nonfiction from Amber Atiya, Nicholas Powers, Mohia Kahf, and Gioncarlo Valentine, poetry by Belal Mobarak, Rami Karim, Vanessa Angélica Villarreal, Paul Tran, Mick Powell, Rachel McKibbens, Avia Tadmor, Doug Paul Case, Joseph O. Legaspi, Rindon Johnson, Claire Marie Stancek, and Grey Vild and visual art by Jenn Nkiru, Sam Vernon, Aria Dean, Chloe Bass, Lauren Machen, Derick Whitson, Jon-Sesrie Godd, Victoria Sin, Andreas Laszlo Konrath, Shantell Martin, and Hamishi Farah.

Avia Tadmor is currently completing her MFA in poetry and literary translation at Columbia University, where she also teaches undergraduate writing. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Crab Orchard Review, Asymptote, the Adroit Journal, Fugue, Nashville Review, and elsewhere. In 2016, she was named a finalist for the Indiana Review Poetry Prize.

Kate Schmier was born and raised in suburban Detroit. She received an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and is the recipient of an Elizabeth George Foundation grant for emerging writers. Her writing appears online at Tin House, HuffPost, and elsewhere. She lives in New York City with her husband, a jazz saxophonist.

Nicholas Powers is a poet, journalist, and associate professor of English at SUNY Old Westbury. His writings have appeared in the Indypendent, Truth-Out, and the Village Voice. Upset Press published his book, The Ground Below Zero: 9/11 to Burning Man, New Orleans to Darfur, Haiti to Occupy Wall Street in 2005.

Grey Vild is a Queer Art Mentorship and Brooklyn Poets fellow and an MFA candidate in poetry at Rutgers University. His work can be found at Them, Vetch, Harriet: The Blog, and elsewhere.

Jon Lewis-Katz is an Assistant Professor of English at the City University of New York, Bronx Community College. His writing has appeared in publications such as Fiction, New Walk, and the Trinidad Guardian, and he has received grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Bronx Council on the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation. He lives in the Bronx, NY.

George Kevin Jordan is a fiction writer and journalist based out of New York City. His work has appeared in Ebony.comBroadwayblack.com, and the Washington Blade among many others. He received his MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University.
